I am long-time technical writer who also happens to be an American Football coach.
I have written technical documentation in the computer industry for over 30 years
and have coached American Football at the high school level for 15 years and in
the Finnish Maple League last year – all on the defensive side of the ball.
During 2013 and 2014, I joined my son, Charlie, coaching American Football in Seinajoki
Finland. Seinajoki has a professional American Football team that has played since
The team is named the Seinajoki Crocodiles. The highest level of play in Finland is called the Maple League. This league contains 8 teams. Four of the teams make the playoffs at the end of the season in a bracketed playoff structure that consists of two semi-final games and then concludes with the Maple Bowl for the championship of Finland. Besides the Crocodiles, Seinajoki has levels of American Football that include many youth levels and even a professional women’s team. Finland’s Maple league is in its 35th year this year.
For the upcoming 2015 season we have signed on with the Warsaw Sharks in Poland. I will be updating the blog to cover that new adventure in Poland. Currently, the blog documents and shares my experiences during the last two years Finland, which ran from 1 May into September of 2014. Check out the categories to the right to see various groupings by topic. I hope you enjoy reading about what it is like for an American to live, work, and coach in Seinajoki Finland. I hope you will stay tuned for the posts from Poland.
